Paul Lewis's recent recording of the Beethoven Piano Concertos has been described as "today's number one choice", and he has chosen to play works by Mozart and Beethoven (November 4). Another legend in their own time, the Skampa Quartet, are joined by the singer, Iva Bittova, in an arrangement of the original piano accompaniment to Janacek's Moravian Folk Poetry in Song. The first half is given to the composer's second quartet, Intimate Letters (November 24).
The acoustic is ideal for opera, the chamber group, Music Theatre Wales, staging a new production of Philip Glass's highly disturbing opera, In the Penal Colony. Fictional, but a depiction of barbaric justice that was meted out in such locations (October 28).
