Legal 500: Yorkshire firms competing in Premier League

YORKSHIRE'S law firms ar competing with their London rivals to gain work from Britain's biggest companies, according to research compiled by the legal industry "bible", the Legal 500.

Despite fears that Yorkshire's legal market is close to saturation point, a number of firms have entered the county's legal market in recent years, including DWF, Ward Hadaway and Dickinson Dees.

The report highlights how many Yorkshire firms are providing "London quality for a reasonable provincial price".

It also chronicles the changing face of Yorkshire's legal scene.

Halliwells, which had an office in Sheffield, recently filed for administration and later concluded negotiations with Hill Dickinson, Barlow Lyde & Gilbert, and HBJ Gateley Wareing over the break-up and sale of its business, which also included bases in Manchester, Liverpool and London.
