It claimed the cuts were linked to the creation of new campus buildings in the town costing more than £81m.

Hide AdUCU official Julie Kelley said: “Strike action is always a last resort, but pursuing the jobs axe route, along with pay cuts, will do nothing for the reputation of Kirklees College. Style is never a replacement for substance and fewer teachers with bigger classes and increased workloads is a poor return for new buildings.”
The college was unavailable for comment yesterday.
