Views sought on funding plan
Under the current system most councils in Yorkshire receive at least £2,500 less per pupil than the most well-supported London boroughs and more than three-quarters of the region’s 15 councils are given less than the national average per pupil. However the Department for Education is consulting on reform of the funding system which aims to “deal with the historic inequalities which have meant that similar schools in different areas receive very different levels of funding.”
The plans have been welcomed by the National Association of Head Teachers’ general secretary Russell Hobby.
