Yorkshire farmhouse next to the site of a Roman fort has potential and is for sale for the first time in 80 years
The Romans were renowned for choosing prime sites for their strategic position and fertile land. The much-loved 1600s farmhouse in Outlane, Huddersfield, has been in the same family for 80 years and is now on the market for £550,000 with Bramleys.
With 2.67 acres of land, and an attached mistal and barn, Heath House is in need of updating and comes with plenty of potential for further development.

"My family has had so many happy memories here, from farming the land to creating colourful garden displays.”
Mr Shaw had plans drawn up in 2005 to develop the adjoining mistal into a single storey dwelling and believes his vision for the home could be brought to life by the next owners.
He adds: “I’m confident that the plans would have been approved but they were withdrawn due to change of personal circumstances at the time.

“At the top of the stairs there was a door leading into an evaves space. To the left of it was a space which had never been opened. In the late 1980’s the room was opened, and raised to create the master bedroom. A conservatory was added in 2002.”
The spacious three-bedroom home provides a quirky layout over two floors and is full of period features, including exposed stone walls, and mullion windows with deep sills.
It has anentrance hall, lounge, sitting room, kitchen, utility, store room with occasional room and barn with adjacent Mistal. To the first floor there are three bedrooms, one with mezzanine and en suite, together with house bathroom. Outside, there are two large, hard-standing parking areas formal gardens and grazing land.
