Win a trip to London to see Diana: Her Fashion Story at Kensington Palace
Marking 20 years since her death, Diana: Her Fashion Story is an exhibition of many of the late princess’s iconic gowns and outfits. Each has its own story to tell as it charts her growth from Shy Di to confident style queen.
The exhibition is staged, fittingly, at Diana’s former home, Kensington Palace, set in acres of tranquil rolling parkland but a stone’s throw from the day-to-day normality of Kensington High Street, where Diana must have shopped.

Gowns featured include those by Yorkshire designer Bruce Oldfield , who once said that “dressing her was quite different to dressing the divas who were going to swish parties.”
As it tuned out, she was a natural. “Fashion is a very good medium to explore Princess Diana, because, although she didn’t want to be known as a clothes horse herself, she intuitively knew the language of fashion and used it as a tool to do her job,” says curator Ereli Lynn.
The “Elvis Dress”, worn in 1989 on a state visit to Hong Kong, covered in pearls and with a high collar jacket, is an exquisite piece, illustrating Diana’s height and shape. “Caroline Walker created an elongated torso,” explains Ms Lynn. “It really suited Diana and she then stuck to this silhouette for the rest of her life.
