Driver charged over deaths of two in crash
A MAN appeared before magistrates in Leeds yesterday charged with causing the deaths of a couple by dangerous driving.
Romanian national Eduard Mereohra, 26, of Burley in Leeds, was charged in connection with a crash on the Stanningley by-pass on New Year’s Day.
The crash involved a Volvo C70 and a Fiat Punto.
The occupants of the Punto – David Metcalfe, 68, and his wife Dorothy, 65, who lived in Tinshill, Leeds – died.
Mereohra was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court next Tuesday.
Police are appealing for information about the crash, which happened just after 11am.
