Gardeners inspired by lock-down show off their horticultural talents
This week marks National Gardening Week, the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) initiative that encourages people to share their passion for plants. RHS director general, Sue Biggs, said their had been an “incredible appetite” for gardening, with millions more people visiting the RHS website.
In Sheffield, people have been sharing ways to get the family involved, such as using toilet rolls and spare egg boxes for planters.

Hide AdSheffield Botanical Gardens curator Ian Turner, said: “We’re all looking for ways to add some excitement at the moment so if you’re feeling really adventurous, why not try growing lychee, avocado and even a piece of root ginger, all from the vegetable section of a supermarket.”
In Thornton le Dale, villagers have vowed to keep their community thriving despite the cancellation of Britain in Bloom, by finding innovative ways to work on their bee-inspired entry.
Coordinator Roger Sharples said: “A group are producing a range of craft items, including knitted bees and butterflies.”
