Gurkhas dig in to help build new garden on the Ouse
The Canal and River Trust has begun work on a dementia sensory garden at Naburn Lock, near York, with the help of Gurkha soldiers from nearby Imphal Barracks.
The new garden will be part of a wider site makeover that will also include a nature trail, to sensitively transform and enhance the natural surroundings at Naburn Lock, located along a picturesque rural stretch of the River Ouse.
Soldiers from 246 Gurkha Signal Squadron undertook training in a more unusual environment, by helping the Canal and River Trust dig and clear a site to create the new garden.
The new nature trail will be completed in time for the trust’s open day at Naburn Locks in September.
