Festival to celebrate Yorkshire Day
The flag will be hoisted at 9am on August 1 and will remain flying above the town hall for the duration of A Festival of Yorkshire – Scarborough, which includes the opening of a David Hockney exhibition at the Woodend Creative Centre, and a free concert by the world-famous Spa Orchestra.
During the flag-raising ceremony, Scarborough Town Crier Alan Booth will read the traditional Yorkshire Declaration.

Hide AdMatthew Joseph, chairman of the steering group behind the festival, said: “It would be brilliant to see residents and businesses in the Scarborough borough get into the spirit of Yorkshire Day and the festival in general by flying the Yorkshire flag with pride.
“Yorkshire flags of all shapes and sizes are available to buy from tourist information centres in Scarborough and Filey and it would be great to see them in shop windows and flown from homes and businesses.”
Scarborough has been invited by The Yorkshire Society to host the main civic gathering for dignitaries from across the region.
