Indefinite sentence for rapist, 14, who targeted other boys

The offences came to light in February after the mother of one of the teenager's victims heard her son protesting and then found the abuser involved in sexual activity having pulled her son's trousers down. Inquiries then revealed the teenager had abused another boy aged 10 once after watching pornography and on another occasion while playing a game of dares with him. Both those victims described having seen the boy with an 11-year-old and the rape offences were uncovered against him. The boy, from Wakefield, admitted two charges of rape and five other sexual offences involving the three boys. Kama Melly, prosecuting, said the teenager had talked about having had previous sexual experiences. He claimed to have been interested in sex with horses and dogs and said he had had sex with dogs in the past. He said he thought he was gay and when he had become sexually frustrated nearly had sex with his family dog. He would only do that when he was desperate. Ordering the boy be detained for a minimum of two-and-a-half years less the period spent on remand, Judge Alastair McCallum told him that he would mean only be released when the Parole Board decides he is no longer a risk. The judge said it was an extremely worrying case in which he displayed violent sexual tendencies and did not appear to understand the effect on his victims. Commenting on the boy's claims to have had sex with a horse and dog, he added "to say that is extremely unusual in a person of 14-and-a-half is to state the obvious." Whether true or not the offences committed indicated he was dangerous and should not be placed in accommodation which was not secure. "What you are seeing on videos and looking at pornographic movies is not reality," he told the boy. "People make things up simply to sell them, that is not the way to live your life, that is complete and utter fantasy." The court heard the teenager is to be sentenced by magistrates next week for an attack on a "senior education practitioner" committed while on remand when he rushed at her with a chair and fractured a rib. Rob Casey, defending, suggested that a "vivid imagination" was behind some of his claims. He urged the court to impose a three-year youth rehabilitation order which would include a residential period at a special unit where he could be given therapy about his sexual offending and other "deep rooted issues." "He knows he needs assistance," he added.
