British florists and horticulture need our support – Yorkshire Post Letters
FLORISTS, supermarkets, garages and other outlets selling cut flowers should support growers of British-cut flowers during the summer and autumn months.
There are an increasing number of nurseries and farms in Yorkshire who are growing good quality flowers such as delphiniums, dianthus, cosmos, dahlias and rudbeckias to name a few cottage garden plants which are ideal for floral bouquets.

Hide AdFlorists need to be more creative in their floriferous designs, and by also using unusual variegated foliage available to the grower.
By supporting British growers and farmers, who have diversified, they can invest in growing flowers at a more competitive price to the subsidised growers in the Netherlands.
The Government needs to reconsider the value of ornamental horticulture when it looks at food scarity.
Customers should do their bit to help their cause by asking for British-grown flowers during the summer and autumn months.
