Ideal candidate for caring post
regarding the letter from Brian Hanwell referring to caring for children and families (Yorkshire Post, January 1), I believe he would make an ideal candidate for the position of a Government Minister responsible for the health and welfare of same or at least in an advisory post, as experience counts for almost everything.
Could I take this opportunity to thank all your letter page contributors for providing another entertaining year’s reading of both serious and light-hearted subjects.

martin Stern (Yorkshire Post, December 31) and Bob Watson (Yorkshire Post, December 12) concede too much by accepting the use of the word chairlady.
A recent (2010) edition of Chambers Dictionary defines chairman as “a person (male or female) who takes the chair, or presides at an assembly or meeting” and chair as “a seat”.
Sometimes committees lose sight of their purpose by insisting on mangling the English language. I am proud to sign myself as above.
