Bid to boost economy of historic York
Senior councillors are being asked to back the proposals which would see the creation of a ‘Business Improvement District’, an area in which businesses pay a levy to fund local projects.
This would help focus on efforts which would directly benefit firms and boost growth, such as improved marketing and communications and investment to improve local surroundings.

Hide AdDavid Levene, York Council’s cabinet member for economic development, said: “The council is looking to support this project, in order to unlock significant private-sector investment in the city’s economy.”
The council’s cabinet will be asked to agree to spend £25,000 from a pot of cash set up to boost the city’s economy, to help pay for a district manager, on March 3.
