Huge blaze at Sherburn-in-Elmet recycling plant
1,000 tonnes of tyres are involved in the blaze, which was reported shortly after 8.30am.
The fire, at Gascoigne Wood Mine, Lennerton Lane, is believed to have grounded aircraft at the nearby Sherburn Aero Club, which runs a flying school.

Hide AdNearby residents are being advised by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service to keep their doors and windows closed. Schools in surrounding towns and villages have also been contacted.
14 fire engines were at the scene by 10.30am, including some from neighbouring West Yorkshire.
Crews were using three hose reel jets to tackle the blaze, while the site’s operator mobilised a digger to create a fire break in a bid to stop the blaze spreading.
A high volume pump which can move large quantities of water over a larger distance than a normal fire engine is also at the scene.
Ambulances were called to the scene at about 9.50am, but no-one has been taken to hospital.
