Carvalhal believes Wednesday must improve that poor run if they are to challenge at the top end of the table.
“We can’t promise victories,” he said. “No coach can do that but I can promise we will try to play very good football and we will fight a lot to win our first match.
“We know it will be tough. We know the opponents will be tough. We have a lot of respect for them but we will do everything we can to win the first match.

“In the last match, the fans created a positive environment for Atdhe Nuhiu. He gave an answer with two goals (in a 5-0 pre-season win against St Mirren) and ran a lot.
“We must understand if we create a positive environment for all of our players they will answer with 100 per cent.
“Our home form was not good last year but our supporters can help us create a positive environment.”
