Pearce struggled with an awkward pass back to the halfway line and as the ball came loose, Johnson stabbed at it with his foot and won the race with the full-back to touch down.
The successful conversion was the last scoring of the half, but Huddersfield's Matt Clarke finished a long solo run from his own half at the start of the second half.
This shocked Hull into action and, after good work from the pack, Piercy scored his second try following a well-created overlap on the left wing with 20 minutes to go. With three minutes left, captain Chris Murphy gave Hull the lead when he finished a strong push from the pack.
However, it was the final kick of the game that stole the draw when Hull were penalised for an illegal tackle near halfway and Johnson hit the target.

They failed to take what could have been an important bonus point when, with regular kicker Tom Davidson off the field, stand-off Tane Jericevich sliced wide a final conversion of Sam Hobbs's last-minute try.
The early enterprise shown by the visitors was rewarded by two scores in the first 15 minutes as scrum-half Mark Gemmell picked up a score on five minutes and was followed over the line 10 minutes later by Tom Ball.
By the half-hour mark, the home side had chipped away with two penalties and the home eight were on top as half-time approached, the Bees ultimately conceding a penalty try as they were driven towards their own line.
