How a £4.37 bottle of Asda plonk beat 16,000 other tipples to be named best in world
The Yorkshire-based supermarket’s La Moneda Reserva Malbec from Chile (2015) took the Best In Show title at this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards.
After blind taste tests of 16,000 reds and whites from across the globe, a panel of 240 international wine experts judged Asda’s Chilean tipple to be the “ultimate crowd pleaser”.

Hide AdIt was described as tasting of “freshly crushed black fruit, creamy vanilla yoghurt and pepper spice” and won praise for its “succulent juicy berries on the palate”.
Ed Betts, wine buying manager at Asda, said he was expecting a run on the shelves for La Moneda Reserva Malbec.
Tesco took five silver medals for its own brand and Tesco Finest wines.
